Beth Baughman DuPree MD, FACS, ABOIM
Dr. Beth DuPree has been an innovative thought leader in breast cancer care nationally and internationally. Her passion to empower healing in her patients on their cancer journey has lead her to a new phase of her career. She has shifted her focus from the operating room to becoming medical advisor to innovative companies focused on various aspects of survivorship.She is currently working with three transformative companies to bring about change in mental wellness and non-narcotic pain management InnerStill Health, Gateway Sciences & Clinics and Signal Relief. She received her Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies Research from the California Institute for Integral Studies in March of 2022. She also completed her MAPS ( Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) certification as well. She is currently enrolled in Synthesis Institute in Amsterdam for additional psychedelic therapy training.
Sedona Arizona has long been the one place on earth that makes her heart sing, therefore bringing fully integrated state-of-the-art breast cancer care to Sedona was a natural transition for her practice. She previously served as Vice President of Holy Redeemer Health System through this transition. She has held an academic appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at The University of Pennsylvania. She is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in diseases of the breast and obtained additional board certification in Integrative and Holistic Medicine. Dr DuPree transitioned her primary practice to The Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona from the fall of 2017 to December 2021. In December of 2019, NAH received full NAPBC ( National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers) accreditation under Dr DuPree’s leadership making it one of four centers of excellence in Arizona and the 670th in the world.
Dr. DuPree, who received her medical degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia in 1987, has written a book entitled The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor’s Journey to Healing. It is the true story of her journey as a surgeon who awakens to the healer that resides within her. Proceeds from the book are donated to The Healing Consciousness Foundation, a nonprofit organization Dr. DuPree founded in 2007 to fund holistic and wellness therapies for women and men living with a breast cancer diagnosis.
Dr. DuPree, who is a master-level Reiki practitioner, strongly urges patients to integrate healing therapies, whether it is through yoga, meditation, life coaching, Reiki, massage, grief counseling, exercise programs, reflexology, integrative nutritional counseling, or lifestyle modification. She believes that “whatever it takes to help a person find healing and peace within their heart should be an integral part of their treatment process.” She has attained board certification in Integrative Medicine that enhances her ability to care for the “whole” patient on their cancer journey.
Dr. DuPree, a renowned breast cancer surgeon, has won numerous awards for her medical work and humanitarian endeavors. Dr. DuPree’s skin-sparing mastectomies, performed in conjunction with plastic surgeon Robert Skalicky, D.O., were featured live on the Internet in October 1999. The mastectomy webcast and subsequent television documentary received a coveted Gracie Allen Award in New York City in April 2000.
Dr. DuPree was awarded the Clara Barton Humanitarian Award from the American Red Cross for her ongoing contributions to the treatment of breast cancer in March 2000. In December of 2002, she received The Vision of Hope Award and in March 2003, Governor Rendell recognized her as one of seven recipients of the Women Pioneering the Future Award. She was Philadelphia magazine’s first-ever-reader-voted “Be Well Philly Health Hero” in November 2012 for her work in breast cancer care, received an inaugural REAL Award in April 2013, and was named one of MORE magazine’s TEN Fierce Females in April 2013. She received one of the inaugural 2014 REAL awards for her humanitarian work. She was inducted onto Drexel University’s prestigious alumni society, “The Drexel 100”, and was inducted into The University of Pittsburgh’s Athletic Hall of Fame in September 2013. (She was a varsity tennis player and 1987 graduate of Pitt.) She has been name to Philadelphia TOP DOCS in 2016 and 2017 as a surgeon and integrative medicine physician. Dr. DuPree was previously the Chairman of The Board of Advocates for the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS). In addition, she proudly serves on the Professional Advisory Board of Breastcancer.org.
Dr. DuPree is a prominent keynote inspirational speaker at many national events, primarily addressing women’s health issues, women’s empowerment, breast cancer, healing and wellness. She has been a frequent expert on NBC Nightly News from 2011 and The Today Show. She was recently featured on the NBC Nightly News exposing quality concerns in breast imaging in northern Arizona. Dr. DuPree previously a co-host of Women to Watch, a live radio show, on WWDB 860 AM that showcases amazing women and shares their personal success stories. She was chosen by her peers at Northern Arizona Healthcare as Physician of the year VVMC 2020.
In addition to her clinical teaching, speaking and humanitarian work, she is a sought-after teacher of new surgical technologies and travels nationally and internationally educating surgeons on the latest and greatest surgical procedures. She is being honored at the Association of Surgeons of India conference 2022 ASICON where she will be conferred as an Honorary Fellow of ASI The Association of Surgeons of India on December 21st, 2002. She will be presenting her research on Optical Coherence Tomography with Perimeter Medical on A Novel Approach to Intra-operative Margin Assessment.
Her greatest accomplishment in life has been parenting her two amazing sons, Tom and Dean with her husband of 36 years, Joe DuPree.
